WHITEBOARD – 23 May 2012

Workload:

Rest

Notes: You all know the drill by now.  You can pick this day to work mobility, some  light cardiovascular work, technique work, or nothing at all.

Say happy birthday to our very own father time (Kramli).

Take a look at this post by Glenn Pendlay, what’s your take?

What was the WOD that day? Looks like it gave him grey hair.

Good article. In my opinion the Glenn article is certainly true. I believe a big aspect of it is that people crave “immediate convenience”. People like to do as little work as possible and or fit in as much as possible in an amount of time. The consequences are not immediate, so we assume the risks of eating crap for the convenience. We all like convenience.

Ignorance is certainly an issue. There is way too little education at home, school, and the work place. Education on the fundamentals, as well as how to interpret the lies. There is a lot of work to do here for everyone. The is a lot of education debt to dig out of. Marketers are having a field day with the ignorance.

The lack of accountability is another issue. Eatting crap and lack of exercise has been proven many times over to lead to costly disease and medical treatments. People have the right to do this to themselves or raise a child to do so and others are collectively accountable for the cleanup. Soda taxes in the UK, Japan requiring minimum waist sizes, are ways to try to create accountability. I am not sure how well they work, but it is good that they are trying things rather than doing nothing. You also see once in a while companies being held accountable for their lies. Sometimes you wonder on the priority of them. For example POM Wonderful juice is being sued because their POM juice does not cure Alzheimers. However it seems that high fructose and other nasty stuff would be better to focus on.

There are some other complex matters that are debatable such as the government subsidizing of corn. It makes corn real cheap for folks like McDonald’s to make all kinds of nasty cheap derivatives from it and stick it in everything.

I think we can do much better than where are at.

I knew it, just was wondering which photo it was going to be. Luckily you didn’t invade Molnar’s collection.

  • John Donne – Meditation 17

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee...
