Getting my reading done at the moment! Couldn’t get to a local gym that was olympic lifting friendly so doubling up tomorrow – AM Olympic lifting & PM WOD. Should be a good way to kick start the week. Not a huge fan of doubling up to make up workouts as sometimes it leads to overtraining, but I am fresh.
Interesting dialogue has come up lately about offesnive lineman’s training/fitness, with much of it focusing on the high school athletes. It seems the norm was to push lineman to gain size no matter what. That led to some obese, unathletic, and very unhealthy high school athletes. A post over at EliteFTS talks about how to make an athletic lineman. Many trainers have been pumping out great high school lineman that are not just big but athletic too (Defranco for example), but it seems this knowledge hasn’t filter to all the high school strength coaches out there.
It looks like the professional game may be getting geared towards a more athletic line as well, considering the new found appreciation for concussions. No 3-Point stance means more of a speed game up front. If the pro game changes, that means the change will eventual reverberate down to the high school level, which will only be good for all of those involved.
About time conditioning for big man didn’t equal twinkies and more twinkies.
Not bad for a high school lineman, eh?
