Training, what are the goals currently?
Hello everyone,
I am getting back to writing on the blog, and providing updates regarding my training. Recently I hit a new PR in the Back Squat (405). The squat used to be my week point, and significantly under my deadlift PR. However, my squat has increased 40 pounds in the last three months while my deadlift has stayed the same…
The switch over to the low bar squat (props to Mark Rippetoe) was the antagonist for change. I knew the squat was a movement that should have been a strong suit (anyone ever look at my legs, they weren’t built for running…), I just never attacked it correctly.
Now, that I have the back squat up, I need to get back to working on the deadlift. My deadlift has been stagnant for the last 6 months. I PR’ed at 470 a little over 6 months ago, but ever since then I haven’t seen anything this side of 450. As soon as I get to 90% of my max my back extension turns to crap.
So the goal is 500 on the deadlift within 12 weeks. I will be following a strength cycle, but will also be working on supplemental work (back extension work) 2 times a week. I need to get used to holding my back in extension, while having the hip loaded. Rack pulls, trap bar, GHD, hip thrusts and odd object training here I COME! If I don’t get 500 within 3 months (with solid form), I will run a 10k as punishment…
