T-Shirt Design

Is it worth it to hire a graphic designer to develop my t-shirt design/logo? I am starting to think so…

I put a lot of value into branding. Your logo, and the visual aids that you present to others are instantaneous reflections of your business and self.

If I designed a t-shirt that was completely black and had violent references on it, what would you assume about my training style? A lot of yelling, maybe some abuse as motivation, and you may think I am in need of some serious sedatives?

What if my t-shirt design looked like it was done by your child? On top of that what if I printed them on your favorite 2 dollar t-shirt? Would you think I was a quality coach, maybe not? (I wasn’t insulting your child by the way, I am sure they are the next Van Gogh…minus the whole ear mishap)

These impressions are why branding means a lot to me. But, here is the dilemma: I would have to spend a large amount of time becoming proficient at illustrating programs to develop a logo that satisfied me. On the other hand I could use that same time bettering my craft as a trainer. What is a better investment, making my product simply look better, or actually making my product better?

Instead of sacrificing one for the other, I think I may invest in the graphic designer. Sure it means one less piece of equipment now, but it means increased revenue within the next month or so, and something that I can provide to clients to allow for a sense of community and belonging.

For the first shirt I am thinking grey, with only black and red as the print colors. I will have a mountain ascent on the lower left side of the t-shirt & one lone mountaineer in red. BEYUL TRAINING down the middle of the shirt in distressed block lettering, and then a circular logo in the middle of the back.

Anyone like? Anyone against the proposed design? Once the shirt design is complete I will post it up. If I hear nothing back I may just switch it to a bright pink baby doll t-shirts with some slogan that references Zumba toning sticks…

Maybe this should be my punishment for not getting a 500lb dead...

    Hey Beyul,

I happen to work with two designers that have previous experience in t-shirt design. If you want I can talk to them and see what can be arranged if anything. I’ll pass on what the basic design that you are looking for and see what I can do.

  • John Donne – Meditation 17

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee...
